Remember how the man in the shoe store measured your feet, telling you how much they had grown over the summer? Remember how proud you were to come to shul on Rosh Hashanah wearing your new shoes, and checking out the new shoes of all your friends?
Well, nothing has really changed since those days. Kids' feet still keep growing. And they still need new shoes for Rosh Hashanah.
But there's one problem. Poverty.
Many Jewish moms simply cannot afford new shoes for their kids. Especially when they have large families, and each child needs a new pair.
There are over half a million poor and near poor Jews in the Greater New York area. Thousands of them are children.
All of them need shoes.
